Yujiro Hanma, the “Strongest Creature on Earth” from Baki the Grappler, is built to end fights with a single strike. Nobody in real life is going to match anime-level power, but we can take the principles behind his physique and fighting ability to create a plan that gets you close. The goal is simple: build muscle like a bodybuilder, raw strength like a powerlifter, and fight performance like an MMA athlete.
The Training Approach
To train like Yujiro in real life, you need to balance two opposing demands—looking powerful and actually being powerful. Bodybuilding movements make you muscular, but fight training makes you athletic. Combining both requires periodization, or breaking training into phases with specific goals.
Phase 1: Strength and Muscle
This phase builds the size and raw strength Yujiro is known for. Focus on heavy compound lifts like squats, deadlifts, bench presses, overhead presses, pull-ups, and heavy carries. Add isolation movements for shoulders, triceps, and core to round out weak points.
-
Reps: 6–12 for most lifts
-
Sets: 3–5 per exercise
-
Extras: Core stability and short martial arts drills to maintain skill
Phase 2: Power and Fight Performance
Once the base is built, it’s time to turn it into fight-ending force. This phase emphasizes explosive training and striking practice.
-
Power lifts: kettlebell swings, Olympic pull variations, jump training, med-ball throws
-
Striking: heavy bag rounds, pad work, shadowboxing
-
Conditioning: sprint intervals and fight-style circuits
Why This Works
Yujiro’s power comes from a mix of muscle size, raw strength, and the ability to apply it in motion. Phase 1 builds the “engine.” Phase 2 teaches the body to use that engine for speed, precision, and knockout force. Done together, this creates the closest real-world version of Yujiro’s unmatched presence.
